- I really want to buy this but need answers to my two questions below.
  Your specification says 1.5 Ghz cpu but I have just watched a YouTube clip of the Onda and the reveiwer says his has a 1Ghz cpu. I guess his is an earlier version but just in case, who is correct?
  Some far east retailers will state on the package that it is a low value item inside to try and help their customer avoid UK VAT on the product. Do you do this?

I've had my Vi40 Elite for a few months and have been very pleased with it. The specs are great, battery life is good and the display and audio quality is more than sufficient. Have used a great many apps on the device and have had very few issues. Obviously in terms of processing power it is not as powerful as the iPad's and Galaxy Tab's of the world but only really intensive 3D games should give you a problem on this tablet. In my experience other than a few non-working apps which I don't expect to the fault of the tablet I have worked without issue.

If you want to use a case to protect your tablet you might have a small issue as the speakers are on the back of the tablet and become muffled, Ideally the speakers should be side or front mounted in my opinion but that is the only design decision I could critique. Otherwise this is an excellent product and definite value for money.

On a simple side note, you should consider a screen protector a mandatory accessory when purchasing a tablet. In the course of general usage and cleaning I have noted some fine scratches on the screen. Nothing to reduce display quality when the tablet is on but a definite warning that a protector is a definite must have. (Posted on 12/17/2012)

For the price, this is an amazing product. This is almost at the same level as the ipad2.. I mean when i turned it on, the purity of the colours and the smoothness of scrolling from one page to the next was just beautiful. I cant believe i didnt get this earlier. I got my Onda Vi40 Elite delivered to Australia this morning (Thursday), after ordering on-line on Monday afternoon – well done Onda & DHL!

Well, what can I say? I'm loving it so far!

First – the good news:

The screen is brilliant – really sharp, bright, and very smooth to scroll, zoom, etc. The whole unit feels smooth and slick to use, even though it only has a single-core 1 GHz processor (plus a 400 MHz Mali GPU). I have loaded up a few 3D games, and they all seem to play fine.

Battery life? Too early to tell yet, but it looks like it will be OK. I got about 4 hours or so continuous use out of the first charge; Wi-Fi on the whole time, lots of downloading, benchmarking, swapping between Apps, video and music, etc, so it was a petty intensive work-out. I would expect battery life to improve after a few discharge / recharge cycles, and more typical usage patterns.

It has been rock-solid so far – running on the pre-installed Android 4.0.3, with no mods or hacks, no crashes or freezes.
Specs (1.0 GHz single-core plus 400 MHz Mali GPU) may appear to be modest by current state-of-the-art tablet standards, but I am truly impressed at the performance you can buy for $200 these days!

Problems?

The only issue has been that a couple of my favourite Apps couldn't be downloaded directly from the Google Play market – in particular, I couldn't install Google Maps (but Google Earth was fine) or YouTube from Google Play. However, it was easy enough to find the apk files with a quick Google search, so I have managed to install Google Maps (with Street View) and YouTube OK, and both are working fine.

Also, Onda – can you please stop referring to it as 1.5 GHz, when it is only 1.0 GHz when supplied? Doing my research before buying, I had worked this out before I purchased, but it is quite misleading, and might get you some negative review comments which could harm the reputation of this excellent tablet. If you mean “can be over-clocked to 1.5 GHz”, or “1 GHz CPU plus 400 MHz GPU”, say so, but don’t advertise it as 1.5 GHz.

All in all – a brilliant machine – especially considering the price! (Posted on 6/8/2012)

Execellant service and experience from start to finish. My initial queries were answered within minutes via email. Once I placed my order on fri afternoon, the device was shipped on sat afternoon and DHL delivered it to my door mon afternoon. I can't get that kind of next day delivery ordering from locat retailers!

The device itself is pretty much as advertised, came well packaged and packed. A very nice screen, though lack of vol buttons is bit annoying. Its same size and weight as an ipad but about twice the thickness so 'slimline' is a bit relative.

Just came back here to leave a comment and noticed there is already a new firmware beta update since I ordered it! adding OTA update functionality.

Oh and the tablet even arrrived with a AUS power plug adapter on the power pack, without my even asking, hows that for thoughtful.

Needless to say I'm a very happy first time customer.

First I want to mention that the customer service is excellent. They responded quickly and efficiently to every question that I had. I received my tablet in 3 days as promised. I was just looking for a media player so my kids could watch movies when we travel but after considering the small price difference for many additional features and reading all the reviews of the Onda products I decided to just pay a little more and get their latest and greatest :) It's completely worth the money. I searched around comparing several different products but this Vi40 has pretty much everything I needed and for such a small price. The graphics are beautiful, sound is great and the screen works perfectly when I touch it (i'm typically not a fan of touch screens). I don't understand the Chinese manual but that's ok the tablet is simple enough to understand. If you have a smart phone or a blackberry you should be able to figure it out for the most part. I'm sure there will be some trial and error but that goes for all gadgets. Overall this is a great tablet and I'm extremely happy with my purchase. I'll be purchasing more in the future I'm sure. I just purchased one in Kolkata from one importer. it is working fine. however it is not working with Reliance Netconnect Broadband + I.e 2G dongle. With 3G from Reliance, no problem but slow compared to laptop. camera does not seem to be of 5 MP. I suppose it is Chinese MP. Many software is not compatible from android store.
Battery life is around 2.5 hr.

I got this tab thinking that It was as any other tablet, Got myself for a big surprise. It is very stable, if I found an app that market says is not compatible, I just transfer the backup from Titanium and install it without any problem. Best tablet in the market. Updated FW to 1.1, video very crisp. However, still some apps and games cannot be installed due to "not compatible with this device". It has been confirmed to ONDA firmware problem. Some apps works when flashed with TNT but still prefers ONDA's native firmware so the unit was reflashed back to ONDA's. (Posted on 5/9/2012)

i just give this great device 4 star because it don't have internal modem, so you just have to find wi-fi hotspot if you want to bring this table outsided, but i don't mind, other famous product with only wi-fi connection have much more price than this great device, great IPS screen, maybe not perfect ICS sometimes makes some laggy, but overall great device!
